Data & sharing

You decide who sees what. Always.

Sharing is one of the most important parts of Underneath — and one of the most carefully designed. Here's how it works, and how you stay in charge.

The parent is always the gatekeeper

Only the adult who created a child profile can share that child's check-ins. Nothing is shared automatically. Nothing is shared without a clear, deliberate action from you.

How sharing works

  • You generate a unique sharing code from inside the app.
  • You give that code to a person you trust — a teacher, SENCO, therapist, family-support worker, or CAMHS clinician.
  • They enter the code in their own Underneath account to see what you've shared.
  • You can revoke a code at any time. Revoked codes stop working immediately.

Consent, in plain language

By generating and sharing a code, you confirm that:

  • You have the right to share information about the child on the profile.
  • You understand the professional will see check-ins, notes and patterns you've recorded.
  • You can withdraw consent at any time by revoking the code.

What professionals can and can't do

  • They can view the check-ins and reflections you've shared.
  • They cannot edit your records or delete your data.
  • They cannot share what they see with other people inside Underneath.
  • Outside the app, professionals must follow their own safeguarding and information-governance duties.

Children's voices

Where a child is old enough to understand, we encourage you to talk with them about what you're sharing, with whom, and why. Underneath works best as a conversation with your child — not about them.
